Touch and Go Records shared on Instagram a letter from the Chicago City Council renaming a section of West Belmont Avenue to « Steve Albini Way » in honor of the late musician and producer. This block was home to Electrical Audio, Albini’s studio.

On what would have been his 62nd birthday, friends, collaborators, and fans took to social media with the hashtag #ThankYouSteveAlbini to celebrate his legacy. Artists like PJ Harvey, Mogwai, and The Jesus Lizard paid tribute to Albini’s impact.

Steve Albini, known for his work with bands like Shellac and Big Black, passed away on May 7th from a heart attack. He was also renowned for his production work on albums like Pixies’ « Surfer Rosa, » Breeders’ « Pod, » and PJ Harvey’s « Rid of Me. »
