Le mois dernier, le groupe parisien En Attendant Ana célébrait le premier anniversaire de son album « Principia » lors d’un concert au Trabendo. Avant de monter sur scène, le groupe a ouvert les portes de sa loge pour retracer son parcours artistique, de ses débuts à son succès outre-Atlantique.
Lors d’une discussion avec le groupe dans leur loge encombrée, on découvre que l’aventure d’En Attendant Ana a commencé en 2015, lorsque deux musiciennes, Margaux Bouchaudon et Camille Fréchou, ont décidé de former un groupe de rock. Avec l’ambition de ne pas se ridiculiser et de faire quelque chose de sérieux, le duo s’est entouré d’un guitariste, d’un bassiste et d’un batteur pour entamer leur périple artistique.
Le nom du groupe, En Attendant Ana, a été inspiré par une serveuse nommée Ana rencontrée dans un bar à Bruxelles. Le groupe a été marqué par la personnalité d’Ana, qui incarnait pour eux l’audace et le courage. Cette muse insaisissable a donné son nom au groupe et est devenue le symbole de leur estime et de leur sororité.
Aujourd’hui, En Attendant Ana compte cinq membres et a sorti trois albums, en plus d’un 45 tours sur le label Sub Pop. Le groupe a réussi à vivre pleinement de son art, se libérant de leurs emplois alimentaires pour se consacrer entièrement à la musique. Leur dernier album, « Principia », a marqué un tournant dans leur carrière, avec un travail d’orfèvre collectif et une exploration au-delà de leur zone de confort.
En Attendant Ana continue de briller sur la scène musicale, avec un succès croissant et une disponibilité totale pour se produire en France et ailleurs. Vincent, an engineer turned bassist, explains that their trajectory motivated them to deconstruct old habits and experiment with new ways of making music. By making production and sound decisions during composition and arrangement, they were able to think differently and create a more airy sound on their latest album.
Signing with the Chicago-based label Trouble In Mind opened up the opportunity for the band to tour the United States and experience the American dream. The band found support and generosity from DIY networks and local groups while on tour, which was a liberating and positive experience for them.
The band felt a sense of freedom on American stages, shedding their fears of not meeting audience expectations or being judged harshly. They focused on the music itself rather than any external distractions, leading to a more relaxed and authentic performance.
En Attendant Ana’s honesty and talent shine through in their music, which is a blend of poetry and science. Their album title, a nod to Newton’s writings on gravitation, reflects their approach to music as a mix of mathematical precision and artistic expression. The song « Ada, Mary, Diane » explores the intersection of science and poetry, inspired by Ada Lovelace’s groundbreaking work in both fields.
